Youth WORK in Trades

As a Youth WORK In Trades student, you’ll “earn while you learn” and graduate from the WORK program with 16 high-school credits and 480 work-based training hours that count towards your trade credential.

Students who have successfully met the requirements of the program are eligible to apply for the Youth Work in Trades Scholarship that can be used towards the costs of tuition and mandatory fees for a post-secondary trades training program.

To be eligible for the $1000 Youth WORK Scholarship, students must have:

  • Been registered with SkilledTradesBC as a youth apprentice
  • Graduated with a Grade 12 Dogwood Diploma or Adult Dogwood
  • Successfully completed WRK 11A, WRK 11B, WRK 12A and WRK 12B
  • Maintain a C+ average or better on Grade 12 level courses
  • Report at least 900 hours to SkilledTradesBC by August of the school year the student turns 19.

Registration Process

Reporting Work Hours

Work hours begin AFTER the student/employer is officially registered with the SkilledTrades BC.  Work-based training hours can be submitted by the district/student/employer.  Here is the SkilledTrades BC Work-based Training Hours Report:

Students and employers must confirm WCB coverage by completing the WCB Clearance Letter for the employer.
