Students usually start meeting with CTC in Grade 11 for Train in Trades, Career Certificate and Dual Credit Enrichment to accommodate high school grad requirements and course changes.

Students sample several Trades programs during 1 high school semester at VIU in either Grade 11 or 12 while earning high school elective credits. CTC offers 4 intakes per school year with 13 seats available in each intake.

Dual Credit Enrichment

The CTC program also offers the Dual Credit Enrichment Program. Students can take up to 4 (2/semester) required University courses that lead to a specific Certificate, Diploma or Degree in their Grade 12 school year while earning dual credits.

Student fees due to VIU are approximately $333 for each semester you are enrolled in university course(s). Students are also required to purchase required textbooks and supplies for each course enrolled. Students can take up to 4 PSI courses.

Students in their Grade 12 year can be sponsored for 1 year of a Career’s Certificate Program by selecting from one of 5 programs. 13 PSI seats are available and students earn dual credits. Eg. Education Assistant, Early Childhood Education and Care, Health Care Assistant, ITAS Systems Administration and Office Administration.

Work Experience (WEX)

Students can gain valuable work experience while earning high school elective credits.

Youth WORK in Trades

Students who find employment with a Trades employer willing to sponsor a student as an apprentice can apply as early as 16 years of age. Students earn high school elective credits and $1000 sponsorship while working towards Red Seal Certification.
